Shemin grew up in Kampala, and along with thousands of other Asians travelled to the UK after being expelled from Uganda in 1972, at the age of 14, by Idi Amin.
Out of the very few possessions she was able to bring with her to the UK, she chose to take her pestle and mortar.
On tasting the products available on the market in the UK, Shemin decided that she could do a whole lot better, in terms of taste, freshness and versatility, and so Shemin’s Curry Paste was born. Here is a picture of our products on the shelf in our first retail outlet! A very proud day indeed.
We have to date won over 40 Great Taste Awards and sold over one million servings of our curry paste.
Shemin’s Curry Paste was a hit! We soon started selling in other outlets around the UK, online and even worldwide…
Shemin’s son Jamie, who was working in China at the time, even took the products to a trade show and started making and selling them in China!
Despite its popularity abroad, we decided to focus at home and grow the business one step at a time. Jamie moved back to the UK to help grow the business, and we ramped up production in our home kitchen and are now in SALSA accredited premises.
As the business grew from strength to strength, the Industry and celebrities started taking notice of just how amazing our products are, culminating in our winning the Curry Product of the Year.

We were then lucky enough to catch the attention of one of the country’s most famous chefs, James Martin who cooked with Shemin’s on his BBC1 TV show Home Comforts.

Our product range has expanded to include recipe books showcasing the versatility of our pastes, personally crafted artisan spice blends, snacks, jars of delicious chutneys and pickles, and recently introduced curry sauces.
We are now proud to display numerous Industry Awards with over 40 Great Taste Gold Stars, awarded Great Taste Award Producer status, winner of Curry Product of the Year, Finalist at the Great British Food Awards and Finalist Quality Food Awards.
