How to make perfect microwave basmati rice

One of the quickest and easiest ways to cook basmati rice is to use a microwave oven. You will get lovely separate grains of rice and it is perfect to eat immediately.

I always rinse my rice before cooking. It gets rid of the starch and other impurities. If your family are big rice eaters you will need the 300g of basmati rice for 4 people.

Rice in a Microwave

Serves 2-4                                                  Serves 4-6

200g rice                                                       300g rice

400ml water                                                600ml water

A good pinch of salt                                    A good pinch of salt

½ tbsp of oil or ghee                                   ½ tbsp oil or ghee

 

You will need a large glass (Pyrex) bowl and a plate that will fit neatly over the bowl to act as a lid.

Put the 200g rice and boiling water salt and oil and cook on power 800 for 11 minutes and then allow to stand for 10 minutes.

If you are cooking 300g of rice you will need to cook the rice for 14 minutes and allow to stand for 10 minutes.

When finished you can stir through a little butter if you wish!
