Harissa Spiced Beef Koftas

BBQ season at the ready! Quick to make, and will get eaten by your friends and family even quicker! You can use any of our spice blends with this recipe, we love using Peri Peri, Cajun, Jerk, Tandoori, BBQ and Ras El Hanout. The choice is yours!



  1. Thoroughly mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Leave to marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight if possible.
  2. Preheat the grill and divide the mixture on to skewers to create evenly sized koftas.
  3. Put the koftas under the grill or on the BBQ, and cook for 7-8 minutes until browned, then turn over and cook for a further 7-8 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Serve the kofta skewers hot with warm pitta (or Shemin’s Indian Breads), houmous, tzatziki sauce, fresh feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, sliced red onions and whatever else you can dream of.


  1. You can freeze them in a single layer until firm then place them in a zip-lock bag. Bake right from frozen there is no need to thaw. Just give them a couple of minutes more.
  2. If using wooden skewers, they can burn easily over a hot grill. Soaking them in warm water for 10 to 30 minutes before threading will keep the skewers from cooking along with the food!
